this year, Saturday Night Live is celebrating its 50th season on the air. But before NBC’s live sketch show was an American television institution, it was an uncertain bet plagued by fighting cast members, early catastrophes and Muppet assault. At least, that’s what we see in the trailer of the upcoming movie Saturday evening.
Directed by Jason Reitman (June, Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Saturday evening takes us behind the scenes of the chaos that leads to SNLthe first taping in 1975. In the first trailer of the film, we follow the creator Lorne Michaels (The Fabelmans‘Gabriel LaBelle) as he attempts to launch the 90-minute live comedy show, while network executives warn him that he is headed for certain failure.
